TYPE DRAWINGS

GENERATIVE WEBSITE

This project consists of a generative program that can draw an image of someone or something only using the desired input text of your choice, and colour.
My interest behind the creation of this automatic drawing program was to be able to produce and reproduce typography drawings by giving the computer the laborious part of the work and giving the artist the decisions to manipulate the final outcome in a much more efficient way (size of the letters, spacing, colours).

This project was done in Processing.
DRAWING ROBOT
These are two small experiments with machine learning techniques.

On the left - Image classification & object detection
On the right - Facial tracking & recognition
I wanted to explore the idea of making my own tools to create a 2D image. I wanted my tools to be made from scratch and be automated in order to produce a generative drawing from an algorithm. It is meant to last around 10 minutes and be different every time because although it is following a set of rules (algorithm), the result on paper will always be different since the robot will never move exactly in the same place and the material being dragged can always be replaced by another.
MACHINE LEARNING
This is a generative art website. Our goal was to create a space to explore in detail what generative art is, and how it has been impacting the art world. There are interactive examples on the website where you can experience generative art in real-time.
This project was made in collaboration with Armando Gonzalez and Chris Newth.

Hello!

My name is Rita Cabrito, my background is in Fine Arts and graphic design, so I am very interested in combining drawing/ 2D art with digital methods.
I am also interested in using typography as a visual element, instead of acknowledging it in a written form.
